Gender Justice SIG
The purpose of the Gender Justice SIG is to offer a supportive intellectual space for
researchers and practitioners to share their work, network with each other, and
advance the field. It also offers a mechanism for promoting issues, challenges and
successes in the area of Gender Justice within the CIES and beyond. The Gender
Justice SIG will support CIES members conducting theoretical and practical Gender
Justice work. Gender, feminist and intersectional work is being undertaken by
hundreds of CIES members working in academia, international development,
comparative education, and policymaking; however, there is no CIES “home” to
connect these individuals and their organizations, or to offer them a space for
mentoring the next generation of scholar-practitioners. The Gender Justice SIG will
also provide an institutional infrastructure to support collaborations with
organizations in the U.S. and around the world, such as the UN Girls’ Education
Initiative, the National Women’s Studies Association, UN Commission on the Status
2
of Women, and the many non-governmental organizations working on gender
issues.
